Baltimore Ravens Boost Defensive Depth with Key Signing, Sources Say
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens continued the organizational commitment to bolster depth along the line of scrimmage, by signing former Duke defensive tackle Ja’Mion Franklin as an undrafted free agent, according to multiple league sources.

Franklin was a stalwart along Duke’s offensive line, posting 40 total tackles with one sack and one pass breakup for the Blue Devils last season. After a strong season on the field, Franklin impressed NFL scouts and coaches during Duke’s Pro Day, where he put up 36 reps on the bench press.

A Ridgely, Maryland native, Franklin has the chance to compete for a roster spot for his hometown Ravens, after the organization made a significant investment in bolstering the line of scrimmage throughout draft weekend.

In addition to signing Franklin, the Ravens also kept All-Pro Justin Madubuike and Brent Urban in place, re-signing them during free agency earlier this spring.

How Ja’Mion Franklin Fits Baltimore Ravens

Franklin joins a crowded position group, where he’ll compete for snaps not only with Madubuike and Urban, but also eight-year veteran Michael Pierce, 2022 third-round pick Travis Jones, but there is certainly an opportunity to climb the depth chart.

After all, Franklin was a force to be reckoned with during his time in Durham, finishing his collegiate career with 57 total tackles, four sacks, and six pass breakups, after spending two years as a rotational player for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Franklin could prove a fascinating name to watch this spring and summer to climb the depth chart and ultimately provide quality snaps along the Ravens’ defensive line.
